Wandering #1 ...
London - Day 3
Our first stop of the day was Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham. It's the first manor built completely in the Gothic style of architecture and is the inspiration for the fairy guardian's house in our four-book Victorian time travel series.
Check out the intricate wrought iron stairs.
The owner owned tons of stained glass and used it all over the house. |
There were different styles of fireplaces all over the house, and check out that library.
It was really fun to imagine our characters in a house like this.

This is me and three of the other authors, Laura Bastian and the mother/daughter duo who write as Jo Noelle |
Our next stop was the Tower of London.
For some reason, I thought it was really just a tower. |
Yard & Fencing
We've been working on the outside of the house. Before I left for the UK, they got the front sprinkler system in and the sod laid.
Friends and neighbors are helping with the fencing.
What have you been up to? Got any summer plans?
Evan had a pup helping you out haha. Geez, sure can go to ancient war there. I thought it was just a tower too, shows what I knew. Quite the hill house, err umm giant freakin mansion, indeed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's quite the fancy house. The rooms were surprisingly smaller than the pictures I'd seen of them.
DeleteThat's one heck of a house over there in England (and yours ain't bad, either!).
ReplyDeleteCurious: how high are those outer walls on the Tower of London? They're either not as tall as you would think, or much taller than they look.
The walls are still pretty tall, and most of the castles were on some kind of rise, at least, to give them a height advantage.
DeleteSuch a wonderful trip. I'm so jealous, but really enjoying the pictures.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun!
DeleteWe didn't make it to the first place but we did see Tower of London.
ReplyDeleteYour place is coming together!
Yeah. I imagine Strawberry Hill House wouldn't be as famous a place as the Tower of London.
Deletewhat? No moat around the fence? Haven't you learned nothing from your British trip?
ReplyDeleteWell, the moat at the Tower of London looks like it could be used for ball fields.
DeleteI'm planning on going to a Star Trek convention soon. It must have taken hours to lay your grass and get the sprinkler system just right, I'm impressed with the green.
ReplyDeleteA Star Trek convention. *sigh* Except for the huge crowds, I'd love to do something like that
DeleteI've been to London a lot but never seen Strawberry Hill before. Very grand! Looks like an enjoyable research trip!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty impressive. They have volunteers who come and take care of different parts of the garden. Very dedicated.
DeleteTower of London looks so cool. Glad you had such a good time.
ReplyDeleteIt's very impressive. And BIG. lol
