Wednesday Wanderings

First Wandering ...

Every year for the last several, I've joined in on the Goodreads Reading Challenge. I think I've mentioned that I read 106 books last year. With the move and it being an election year for me, I set a lower goal. Only 50 this year. As of today, I've finished 29, and I have 3 in process. lol

Only 8 of them were ebooks. All the rest were audiobooks

Second Wandering ...

Have any of you heard of Kindle Scout? Amazon defines it as:
Kindle Scout is reader-powered publishing for new, never-before-published books. It’s a place where readers help decide if a book gets published.
What's cool about it is that once a book is submitted for consideration, it's live on the Kindle Scout board, and readers can "nominate" it. Now, voting by readers is not the only thing that Kindle uses to decide on a book, but if the book you've nominated is chosen you get a copy of it for free. Nice, right?

Today I'm letting you know about a book that's in the nominating phase. Click here to check it out.

When Hailey Baker receives the call that her beloved Gramps has suffered a debilitating stroke, she’s determined to help. Putting her career at risk, she seizes the opportunity to leave her recent heartbreak and addiction to Netflix behind. She arrives in Florida only to discover her grandmother is neck-deep in matchmaking schemes for the retirement community, and Gran’s next victim is Hailey. Once Gran meets the handsome speech therapist, neither he nor Hailey stand a chance.

Notice on the page the various categories the book fits in.

Romance  ›  Clean & Wholesome
Romance  ›  Contemporary
Romance  ›  Inspirational  ›  General
Romance  ›  Romantic Comedy

This weekend I finished reading a KS winner, A Strange Twist of Fate, by Debra Erfert. I've read other books by this author and really enjoyed them, and I liked this one a lot too. You can click here for details.

Notice that I got to read a book that's on preorder.

One widow, one killer—who will die first?

Gutsy, grieving Anna is determined to find who murdered her husband. Hampered by agonizing loneliness, her obsessive-compulsive mother, and her over-controlling father, she defies convention, and the law, to investigate on her own. When she runs up against Lee Adams, a handsome police detective who’s determined to save Anna from herself, she has to step up her rogue search for the killer, before time and dwindling leads run out.

Kindle Worlds
In case you find a book you really like, note that they also have something called Kindle Worlds. That's where different authors write within the world of one of the books. It reminds me of how tons of SciFi authors got into writing Star Wars stories.

The only world I follow is The Royals of Monterra. Sariah Wilson is the original author, and her books are considered "canon." It's fun to see what other authors do with characters from a world you enjoy.

Anyway, now that you know more than you ever wanted to about Kindle Scout, you can click here to check out other books that are up for nomination. You can scroll through the books and see if there's anything you might be interested in. I've read quite a few KS books.

Have you ever done the Goodreads Challenge?
See any movies last weekend?

    1. It's been fun nominating books, especially when I get them free later.

  3. I can't do audiobooks. If they don't capture my interest, my mind wanders and forget to listen. If they grab me, I get totally engrossed in the story and forget what else I'm supposed to be doing (a definite problem if I'm driving).

  4. Dang. I should keep track and join the challenge. I read well over 150 books last year. I pretty much average 2 a week. None of them were audio books. I'm hopeless, but how do you listen to those? I'm guessing it's not on 8 track tapes...rofl
