Monday Meanderings - January 16, 2017

First Meandering ...

Saturday was my hubby and my 33rd wedding anniversary. We went out to lunch but mostly spent the day working on the new house. In February we're going to attend a Regency Romance Ball--all dressed up. Yes, my sweetie is a good sport like that. :D

Second Meandering ...

When I was a teen, I lived for a couple of years in San Francisco.

Did I mention that we lived in the middle of the bay? My father was stationed on the Treasure Island Navy Base.

I attended 9th and 10th grades in the City. We had some challenges in 9th grade--some real horror stories. But it made me work really hard to get good grades, so I didn't have to go to the high school my junior high fed into.

But, it's a really cool place with quite an interesting history.

That's one of the reasons I chose it for the headquarters of Grantham Industries in the story Waves of Deceit (from the Teapots & Treachery anthology).

Shelby Nash, the heroine, loves San Francisco and has some fond memories there.

Biking in Golden Gate Park (which is one of the best parks in the world. So many cools things there, like biking, hiking, paddle boats, de Young Museum, botanical gardens, Conservatory of Flowers, etc.

Third Meandering ...

We have carpeting and counters. Tuesday we're supposed to be ready for the final inspection--and then can begin working on the inspector's list of things to fix. But it's seeming real now.

Do you have fond memories of someplace you've lived or visited?
What made you love it?

  1. Happy anniversary!
Cool to say you lived in the bay on that base. If you didn't go to the high school in the city, was there one on base?
    And kitchen is coming together!

    1. The school on the based ended with 8th grade, so 9-12 students were bused into the City.

  3. Happy anniversary! House is sure getting there indeed. It is sometimes neat thinking of the places we lived, sometimes, lived in some crap holes so they aren't neat lol

    1. Well, that school I went to in 9th grade was a crap hole. It looked like a miniature San Quenton Prison and the hoodlum attitudes of the kids was scary. So I get that!

  4. Happy Anniversary! Hard to believe that a place under construction has things the building inspector would flag. I hope for an early move in if that's possible!

    1. Well, there's always something they find. We're just hoping it won't be too long a list. Poor hubby has been working so hard he's exhausted.

  5. 33 years! A wonderful accomplishment. I was born in San Francisco and have spent some time there over the years. During WWII my dad was stationed on Treasure Island. I've always thought if I had to choose a city to live in, it would be SF, but I doubt I could afford it.

    The house is looking good.

    1. Yeah. It's one of the most expensive places to live in the US. I know people who have 2-hour commutes (one way) because that's the closest place they can afford to live. It's crazy.

  6. Patrick City back when I was a little girl. The neighborhood was so nice and friendly. We even got along well with our landlord and had a nearby VHS place to rent movies. I still miss it today. Congrats on your wedding anniversary and the advancement with the house Donna. Your husband is an excellent sport. Hold him!

    1. A good neighborhood is such a blessing, one that we don't always appreciate until we don't have it anymore.

  7. Ahhh. San Francisco! We drove up last week and once again said, "Why don't we do this more often?" We're only 45 minutes out of the city and seldom take advantage of it. Yet we go to other cities a lot farther away! What's wrong with us? :-)

  8. My fond memory place is definitely Seattle. I spent a few years there in my early twenties. I fell in love with it but have never moved back.

    1. Ah, Seattle. I've been there only a couple of times. Lovely place.

  10. I love the liberal aspect of San Francisco, the quaking element not so much :)

    1. Yeah. We had a couple of mild shakes while we lived there. We were in Sacramento--and felt it 90 miles away--when the big one in 1988 took out a section of the Bay Bridge and collapsed the Nimitz Freeway. That was so freaky because we used to drive those stretches all the time. So sad.

  11. Great pics, that's where I live now...well on the peninsula, not Treasure Island. Although I've sailed around it plenty:) And congrats on your anniversary! A regency ball actually sounds kind of fun:)
