Monday Meanderings - February 8th

First Meandering ...

I did not watch the Super Bowl. I'm just not into it. And I can always catch up with the commercials after anyway, when they're talked to death. I did, however, see Lady Gaga's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. I've always known she was a talented singer, but wow. It's a hard song to sing well. Even putting aside her resemblance to Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games, Lady Gaga nailed that performance, imho.

Second Meandering ...

Are you a plotter or a pantser? I tend to free write, but then my editing is agony. I keep hoping I'll find a way to make it less painful. One of the things I struggle with is identifying each story's theme. In researching sites to help me get my head around it, I found K.M. Weiland's webpage, especially her post about theme here. I love how she makes it clear and simple.

I need clear and simple.

Third Meandering ...

We all know what's coming up this weekend. Lots of people say it's a holiday made up by advertisers. Others call it Singles' Awareness day and give black roses. Others just look at it as a chance to go out with their sweetie.

We do celebrate it, usually with dinner or a movie. A chance for a night out is always a fun thing for me, but we don't make a big deal out of it.

So where do you fit?

One of these? Or somewhere in between?

Or do you pretend it doesn't exist? lol

Did you watch the Super Bowl? How do you write?

  1. Not a fan of Gaga, but she did sing the National Anthem well.
Definitely a planner. Not a fan of first drafts but enjoy editing.
And my wife and I are getting away for several days next week! The three day weekend prompted it more than Valentine's Day though.

  2. I'm a wingman in general, but sometimes I find myself trying to plot a little when I'm stuck. Didn't watch the game, but it looked like a real stinker from what I'm seeing. Maybe I'm wrong.

    1. I'm just trying to find a way to be faster at this. So, far all it's doing is giving me things to thing about as I pantser away ...

  3. She really did nail the National Anthem. And she dressed appropriately, too!!! #snort You didn't miss much as far as the game goes. It was kind of boring.

    1. Facebook was full of the commercials. Who needs to watch a boring game? ;)

  5. I told my husband yesterday evening not to bother with gifts for Valentine's Day. One, I've started a healthy eating programme so no chocolate; Two - flowers are far too over priced at this time of day and finally, he treats me throughout the year so why stress about getting something for that one day when he makes every day so special (get the tissues out :)). Have a great week!

    1. That's the true romance--the one that happens all year long.

  7. I MAY have watched a little of the Super Bowl. :P

ARE YOU KIDDING? WE'VE WAITED TWENTY YEARS FOR THE BRONCOS TO REDEEM THEMSELVES! Heh.

And I'm a total pantser with a plan. I always know my ending when I start, but I don't plan anything in the middle. I like to discover the story organically, based on character actions/reactions. Sometimes making it fit with the ending I have in mind can be a challenge though. Yeah.

    1. Well, I hope it was worth your time.

As for writing, your way is kind of how I am. I know a few things that will happen in between the beginning and end, but I don't always know how to get the characters there. :D

  8. Yep, Gaga showed she can sing better than 99% of US singers last year at the Oscars, this is just another confirmation. Too bad they ruined her performance with those terrorist US soldiers in Avganistan. And Beyonce was godawful and trashy as always and also a racist in a way.

    1. Hmm ... not sure what to think about the "terrorist" US soldiers, Dezzy. Why not tell us how you really feel?

  9. Lady Gaga was amazing.

I am a plotter who pants's it when I get going. I have an outline, but reserve the right to follow tangents. It totally makes editing a nightmare.

    1. For some reason too much plotting kills the creativity in my head.

  10. Lady Gaga was fantastic. I felt the same way, I knew she was good but DANG!!! That woman can sing!

  11. I'm a plotter all the way since that makes for easier drafting. Lady Gaga did an amazing job with her beautiful voice.

  12. Lady Gaga has an amazing voice. I'm a pantser myself and Valentine's Day has never been a big deal.
