Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

I'm heading to Hawaii for a quick family trip (I know, rough life), so I won't be posting next week.

My life has been such a flurry of responsibilities and things to think about that and plan for that the summer has just flown by. It's interesting that our brains can only juggle so much. All the extra political drama associated with the election (my day job) has made it worse.

In a way, that's not necessarily a bad thing because I think I'd have worried more about other things. It's kind of like having a larger pain take all your attention from a lesser one.

I hold onto one thought as I struggle through the hard things that are part of being a writer. Words have power. Power for good. I don't try to moralize when I write, but I always seek after the great nobility that is in each of us--and each of my characters.

What power do your words have to make a difference in someone's life? We often never know.

Someone else posted about the power of words this week and how much of a difference the right words can make in someone's life.

    1. Funny that we were all raised with little adages like "sticks and stone may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." And they're such a lie.

    1. I'll be glad for the break, that's for sure. And the chance to squeeze those grandkids.

  3. A lovely video, thanks for sharing that.

I think the "flurry" also helps us focus a little more. When things are "easy", it can easy to take your foot off the gas and assume there's time for everything and let things slide.

    Have a great trip!

    1. That's true, Jeff. We appreciate good health so much more right after have been really ill. It's the same for the calm after the craziness.

  5. Enjoy your self and take care! Words have power. Yes they do. It's always good to keep that thought in the forefront of our minds while writing.

    1. Yes, we should. It's a power we don't always realize and can be easily detrimental.

  7. We really don't know what someone is going through and our words can make or break them! Such an important thing to remember.

    1. That is so very true. And why reading fiction increases people's ability to relate to others and feel compassion for them.

  8. You enjoy that rough life. LOL

The right words can make or day, the wrong ones can take us out at the knees. They're full of power, for sure!

  10. It's surprising how much just a smile or compliment can do in most situations. I hate that we live in a world that has become so increasingly negative. It's our responsibility to try and negate that pessimistic gloom.

    Aloha!

  11. Words can change your life. They can coat bitter pills and they can strip away the joy in your life. But they can also bless you and wrap around you in a comforting blanket. I greatly appreciate your words of support and friendship over the years. You are a FABULOUS person, Donna. By the way, love the fall leaves...:o)
I hope you have an amazing trip. And I hope you avoid those three hurricanes (For all I know they could have blown themselves to smithereens. I've been writing all day.) Enjoy the island life for me, won't you?
