Robin Ambrose wrote a post about her writing schedule after reading what Nathan Bradford wrote about his. I thought it might be interesting to share.
I don't usually make it to my alarm going off. My internal clock wakes me about 4:50 a.m. Doesn't make any difference what time I go to bed either.
I have a Fast Metabolism appropriate snack because I need to eat 30 minutes before I can exercise. I usually do business at my desk while eating.
At 5:30 a.m. I get on the treadmill and join my fellow iWriteNetwork friends in the chatroom where we hold each other accountable for our writing sprints.
Notice the laptop. It's amazing how fast that treadmill time can go when you're doing business and writing/editing.
Since I have a day job, I have to get ready for that and return about 5:45 p.m. Have dinner and play a couple of games of League of Legends or StarCraft2 with hubby.
Then from about 7-9 p.m. I write and/or edit. Sometimes do business. Weekends are much the same except substituting weekend chores for the day job. I do have more time to write. Usually.
What about you? What's your daily writing routine like?
If I'm writing, it's in the evening.
ReplyDeleteDid you paint the walls of your exercise room? That's really cool.
I did some of it, but one of my artist sons did a lot with some help from his wife. A family friend did the bulk of it. You can tell she love anime by it's influence in the Harry Potter portion.
DeleteWow! You're very productive. I'd need to write at night, but I don't right now. I just want to veg out by then. That's awesome how productive you are.
ReplyDeleteWell, my kids are grown and I don't watch much TV. I'd rather play video games. lol
DeleteI have inner clock too which wakes me up when I tell him before going to sleep :)
ReplyDeleteThat can be handy or a royal pain in the foot!
DeleteWow, you get up early. The cat is the only one up that early at our place haha but suppose you get a lot done before work that way.
ReplyDeleteI can get a lot done in the early morning. Fewer distractions.
DeleteWait, you have a treadmill desk? Whaaaat? You are much too efficient. :P
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I love it! I can't do more than about 3.2 and still work the mouse. That's really the biggest problem. But that's a brisk enough pace to make it very fruitful--both writingwise and healthwise.
DeleteHow do you type and walk at the same time?
ReplyDeleteYeah, but don't ask me to walk and chew gum at the same time. ;)
DeleteYou're up at 4:30? Good Lord... and good for you. Currently, I write at night since the day job fills up eight hours of daylight. But the weekends I write in the morning. I prefer that. I'm seriously impressed by the treadmill/laptop. That's pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteDang brain! I'd really like to sleep in a little more. I've told friends who talk about how well acquainted they are with their snooze buttons that I'd like to make friends with mine. lol
DeleteYou are a trooper! My internal alarm goes off at four also, but only to use the potty then wander back to bed. I do read on my treadmill. I hate exercise, so getting reading time in is sort of my carrot for being there!
ReplyDeleteI used to read or watch movies. I like the reading part better on my stationary bike, but I don't use it often anymore, not since I broke my tailbone a few years back. I figure, whatever works, right?
DeleteA treadmill desk! I've never seen one. If I had one, maybe I would finally get some exercise (besides walking). Your schedule sounds intense. Do you ever rest?
ReplyDeleteI came up with it when I was being pulled all the time between doing writing/writing-related tasks and exercising. I like that I now don't have to make a choice.
DeleteRest? That's called League of Legends and StarCraft2. :)
You type and exercise at the same time at 5.30am?! I feel like one lazy bum right now. The nearest I get to that is reading the Kindle while walking the dogs. And that is one coolly decorated gym!
ReplyDeleteYou all make me smile. It's not really that hard. I don't start at 3.2 but a 2 and warm up into to.
DeleteLove your laptop on exercise machine routine...sounds awesome way to exercise!
ReplyDeleteI love not having to choose between two things I really have to get done.
DeleteI am in awe. Typing and walking...I don't think I could do it without falling on my face!
ReplyDeleteSo start slow. ;)
DeleteI'm still trying to figure out how you write while on the treadmill!
ReplyDeleteWhat I wish is that I had Dragon on that laptop. That'd be even better!
Delete*I* want a treadmill desk!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a set routine, but I notice my writing productivity go up when it gets dark. I write at night or early in the morning. I'd love a treadmill desk.
