IWSG - January 2015

Click here to find out more and to see a list of other IWSG blogs.
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

We're supposed to share a little about ourselves. In my day job, I'm a city recorder (municipal clerk). I work with my mayor and council, handle city records, and run elections, to name a few of my duties. This is going to play out a lot in the book I'm editing, Swing Vote. I'm a mother, grandmother, Army vet, karate black belt, and total Harry Potter geek. I love to read. I like to do videography, and I used to do crafts and crochet until I started writing. There's just not enough time now for everything.

A new year.

A new beginning.

Like starting a new story,
it's a chance to take a blank piece of paper
and create something totally unique.

What I write on it is up to me.

Sometimes real life gets complicated.

How I handle those complications is up to me.

What do you hope for yourself in 2015?

  2. It really is up to us, isn't it. I've been thinking a lot about this lately.

Reading different IWSG articles makes me aware that I'm not alone and many are facing the same distractions, sets of problems, and everyday life does get into the way of writing. It's all in what you want. :-) Thanks for the reminder.

    1. And isn't it nice to see we're not the only ones struggling? Sometimes another author's solution to a challenge inspires one for me

  7. I saw a great quote on Facebook last week. It went something like, "Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a great one."

    Happy New Year.

  9. I love that quote! It's so true.

I love blank pages!! I still have kids home from college, but when the house clears out, I'll get back to work filling up those pages.

Best of luck in 2015 Donna!!!

I hope to finish the story I've been working on forever, it seems. And maybe another one or two.

    1. Funny how some stories are like that, isn't it? My YA portal fantasy story feels like it's forever there. But I WILL get it done!

    1. This particular story will be very cathartic for me, I think. In my job, I must bite my tongue. With a piece of fiction, my characters don't have to.

  19. Hi, Donna,

    Happy 2015...

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Excellent quote by James Owen....

For 2015, I hope for a simpler and safer world for all. Where all our hopes and dreams can come true.
