It's more than a family barbecue, nice as that may be. For me, with my family's long history of service, I'm just grateful--to those who showed me the way and to those who give so much now.
That's right - the price of freedom is not free. God Bless those who serve our country and those who gave their lives for it. Our military deserves great respect.
I really do get it, the sacrifice so many have made so that we get to keep living the life we do in this country. And I shall raise a barbecued rib in their honor later today. :P
It means acknowledging those intrepid people who stand/stood at the line, staring death in the face, their guts in their throats, to save their buddies, their families, and their country. It means understanding that though they might not have believed in the cause their Commander-in-chief espoused, they were there to be his 'dogs'. It means remembering the sacrifices of our Founding Fathers, my father (Army), my foster brother (Navy Seal), my husband's grandfather (one of the first 4 Navy Seals ever) and several friends in the Air Force, National Guard, Army Snipers, Army Rangers, MP's etc. I SALUTE YOU!

ReplyDeleteHappy (belated) Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteSame here - lots of military in my family all around (3 out of 4 in my immediate family have served or are currently serving) :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your service and thanks to all of our servicemen and women everywhere.
Oh, P.S. You won on my blog!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely. It means to honor those who died in service to our country. Sad, that the meaning often gets lost in the holiday.
ReplyDeleteHappy (very belated) Memorial Day!
