I loved my original cover for A Change of Plans. The storm at the top rocked. I loved the seriousness of the couple on the lower half that foretold that the book wasn't all sweetness and light.
But everyone and their brother wanted to use that couple too. All over the freakin' the place. Seems like everywhere I turned there was another book with that couple on it. It's the challenge that comes from using stock photos. While I think my cover was the most beautiful and engaging of any that I saw, the couple was hard to forget.
It's like going to a fancy dress ball and seeing someone else there wearing your very same outfit.
So I decided it was time to change out the bottom picture. I worked again with the awesome Melissa Williams who did the original cover.
I love that it still has the same feel as the original cover, with the raging surf at the top and the title in the middle. The silhouette of the couple with the faint image of a cruise ship on the distant horizon is perfect. We should be ready to change it out everywhere in the next week or so. So excited!
Your thoughts?
Bummer you had to change it! I've seen the stock image of a running couple on several books in the past year. It is noticeable. (Hadn't seen yours though.)
ReplyDeleteThe new cover works!
Love the new cover. It's a shame you had to change it from the original though!
ReplyDeleteI like it. I like the juxtaposition of the stormy surf at the top, and the calm of the lower image.
ReplyDeleteThis one looks great -- and you'll probably pick up new readers, too!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. And I've noticed that as well with different book covers, that the same stock photos get used over and over again. Glad you got a new cover you like and is unique!
ReplyDeleteFirst time I've seen that image, both look great, but good to stand apart.
ReplyDeleteI like the surf on top
ReplyDeletePretty! And yes, this is a big fear of mine for my own covers. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning cover. So excited that you've got such a gorgeous one.
ReplyDeleteI love the crashing waves and silhouettes.
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE repeat until infinity...
ReplyDeleteI love the storm on top and that both top and bottom have the same color scheme, tying them together well despite the different moods of the two images. I hope you don't run into the same problem with the couple you have this time. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it, Donna!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like this one better. Hope it brings you good luck and some new sales.
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but I prefer the first one. Can I say that? *blush*
ReplyDeleteStill, I understand not wanting your cover to look like everyone else's. Go for it! :D
I'm glad my copy has your old picture because I really like it. That said, the new one is pretty spectacular too. The surf definitely ties everything together and you still get a hint of romance. So this was just stock? Did you have to pay anything for it?
ReplyDeleteI wonder how my cover thing will be. I have a REALLY photogenic cousin (husband's aunt's daughter...yeah) who would look great as a barrel racer. I guess we'll see.
I love it! Fantastic change! The gold from the sun is absolutely beautiful. Congrats on another great cover!
