A Change of Plans Audiobook

I'm so excited about this! A Change of Plans is now available in audiobook. I'm a huge audiobook lover, and I'm picky about narrators.

As authors, we create this world in our minds. We know how we think each of the characters are saying things, the emphasis they give. I've heard many other authors say they hate hearing their books in an audiobook. So, it was with some trepidation that I started listening to Karen Kruper's interpretation of MY characters.

It was such a relief because I really enjoyed it! Kruper catches Elle's bubbly enthusiasm, Lyn's more low-key tone, and Braedon's seriousness. She gives Jori a fun Finnish accent, Jimmy a great Texas drawl, and Maria a Spanish accent. Jack's voice is rougher and gruffer, just like it should be. Emily was brisker than I had imagined, but it fit her character, so I was able to move easily from the voice in my head to the one in my ear.

As for the story itself. Well, I'm biased. :D

Here's a sample:

Do you have anything in audiobook? If yes, are you happy with it?

If not, have you ever considered it?

  1. Donna,

As soon as I saw Audiobook I knew I had to click on this post. Since I have been writing I haven't had much time to read as I use to. One day I decided to buy an audiobook to listen to while cleaning, doing laundry, driving, even sometimes at work (ssshhhh).

I've become addicted to them and I am always looking for a new one. I definitely will be purchasing A Change Of Plans next :)

And I know what you mean about the narrator, most books I purchase are good but I've came across a few that caused me to give up listening.

  3. Donna, that's awesome! I think it would be cool, but not sure my publisher will ever go that route.

  5. I am a voracious reader. The last few years I have had limited eyes to type on paper or on screen time. Thus I became a big audio book listener. Audio books get me through household tasks. I would think people with long commutes as well as people with dyslexia and visual problems and many other challenges for reading as much as you would like would benefit from audio books.

  7. Oh, wow! That's great. I've never really listened to an audio book before. How strange, though, to hear someone else interpreting your characters like that. But also kind of cool. :) Congrats!!

  8. Very nice audio clip. I don't listen to a lot of audio books myself. Tried doing it while driving but I get caught up in the story and find myself crawling along at ten miles an hours.

  10. Cool, Donna! I don't usually do audio books because there are low tones I can't hear when I'm driving. I could do this one, though! Congrats!

  12. Awesome!! Love a good audio book! It's still a someday for me but it's out there floating in the universe.

Love the bit you shared too ;) I think I could enjoy reading about Lyn's change of plans!

  13. Congrats, Donna. I know some people love audio books. I'm not one of them. My mind wonders too much when I list to them. I need the written word in order to remain focused. :P

Having your book as an audio book is a huge deal!

  19. I can't listen to my audio book. Not because it's not done well, but because I've had my characters' voices in my head for so long that I just can't hear them voiced in any other way.

The reader does a great job (I'm told) and my daughter has listened to the audiobook many times, but I always have to leave the room.

  20. This is fantastic! I'm not very good with audiobooks--my cute kids are too loud--but this snippet is excellent!
