Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

The first part of this post leads to this part. My book is out now and the marketing is in full swing. I hate sales! I'm happy to pimp someone else's book, but it feels so strange for me to be encouraging other people to buy mine.Good thing I have fake nails on or I'd have bitten mine to the quick.

  1. Marketing your own book does feel really weird and uncomfortable. There's no getting around it -- just suffering through it.

  2. Trust me, it is weird to push one's own book. That's why it helps to have others support you.

  3. Yeah i agree, hate it too. That may be my issue haha

  4. I know exactly what you mean! Remember how we all hate pushy salesmen who shove their foot in the door? Lo and behold, what have we become when we hawk, "Buy my book! Pretty please! It's soooo good, you just gotta buy it!"

I cringe...and try to think of innovative ways of keeping those doors cracked without getting my foot broken! LOL

  8. Donna:

I can't say that I like promoting my own book. Maybe that's how we writers are. ***shrugs***

When book 2 is done, I figure I'll do a better job of promoting.

  10. Sales are awful. I'm a terrible salesmen, but if I love a book I won't stop talking about it. ;) Half your marketing will be done by readers, so that is helpful. Good luck!

  11. I hate talking about my own stuff too, it's hard. But everyone's been super supportive of you and I'm sure they'll continue to be :)

  12. I've never fully landed myself in a place where I'm comfortable selling my work. It's a strange place to be! I think you're doing beautifully, though. :)

  13. Well, I'm happy to help out and actually hope I'm helping. Also, I hope to feel that weirdness one day myself.

  14. I find marketing and promoting tough, too. I'd much rather push someone else's book than my own novels. Yet, marketing and promoting are part of the game. Good luck!

  16. Congrats on your books release! Sadly the industry nowadays requires all authors to be both writer and marketer!

  17. Yeah, I always imagine it will be great to have a novel come out, and then I think of the exposure, and the marketing push, and then I think I would want to put my head under a pillow and hope it all goes away...and yet sell a lot of books! LOL.

  18. It's not something I've done yet but I can imagine it feels kinda weird and exciting all rolled into one. Try not to bite those nails, new ones will be expensive!

  19. You're doing great! You, yourself is the perfect marketer of your book.

  20. It's the worst part of publishing, but you'll get used to it, and better at strategic marketing, as time goes by.

I should finish ACoP tonight - wheeeee!

  21. I can see how it would be hard to pimp out your own book, but just do it! Congrats on the release of your book!
