A to Z - Dream Launcher

I would like to acknowledge Tara Tyler who kindly awarded this to me back in March. I just figured it would too good an A to Z post to pass up.

I've always had stories going on in my head. Over two years ago, after finding out about NaNoWriMo too late to participate, I decided to do my own personal one and see if I could even write a novel length story. Thirty days and eighty thousands words later, I found I can.

And I fell in love with writing. The stories in my head are so much more satisfactory now that they are on paper and complete.

Well, kinda complete. I've never met a page I didn't want to edit.

Consider yourself tagged.

What/who helped you launch your writing dreams?

  2. I wrote my first novel in my teens, so I would say my favorite writers and English teachers launched my dreams.

Congrats on the award and word count. I'd like to try writing a novel in a month.

  3. NaNo got me going, too (two years ago as well). Though I'm still not entirely sure what woke the Sleeping Giant.

  4. My dreams grow every time I go to the storymaker's conference and learn from such great people.
    Thanks for posting.
Also, you've won an award on my blog.

  5. My mother helped me launch my writing dreams. She was the first to see the possibility, to nourish it and then step back to watch it grow.

  6. Eighty thousand words in a month? Amazing.

I've had a few people supporting me every where I go, but my true dream launcher was a woman who was a published author who told me I should try to publish a story I'd written.

  7. Not exactly sure, probably the life altering experience of moving very far away to a new and exciting place.

  8. Great Achievement!

Funnily enough - being made redundant gave me the very kick that i needed to get out there and change my life. Best thing that ever happened to me!

  9. Yeah once they are out of ones head they truly are way more satisfying.

  10. It was pretty much the voices in my head that launched my dreams as well.

    Glad they're so persistent :)

  11. After I stopped dancing, I went years without having a creative release... it was hard. When I found writing, it was like I found myself again. Man, I'm so glad I found it! It means so much to me :D

  12. Like you, I've never met a page I didn't want to edit! I've always loved writing, but my second grade teacher gave me much needed confidence. Later, a college professor offered more encouragement and steered me toward writing. Hurray for teachers.

  14. Great that NanoWri inspired you so:) I'd say my grade school teachers inspired me, since they always liked the little stories I wrote as a kid.

  15. Hi, Donna,

NaNo is a big way to find out you wanted to write. For me, I came back to writing after a long break, started with articles and then short stories. A comment from a writer than I should write novels got me started down that road.

  16. hah, like that line, 'I never found a page I didn't want to edit' ohhh, so true. I find myself doing that all the time and luckily saying the words in my head so as not to offend whoever is asking m to read over their stuff!

  17. I agree with you and Tracy on the edit line. Sadly for me I'm way better at editing other people's work than my own. I always miss the obvious problems on my own because I'm too close to the piece.

My high school English teacher/yearbook sponsor. I never wanted to write until I started studying under him. He made me believe I could write.

  18. My dreams started when I got asked to teach a Creative Writing class and discovered my own desire to write. And then thought bigger.

  25. I've thought about this a lot, and I finally realised what pushed me into getting started., or at least reading blogs that would lead me to it. It was my husband leaving. No sob story, it was the best thing that ever happened to me :-)
