Summer Poetry - Week 7

After last week's humor, it's time for something along a more classic theme:
Nine Circles of Hell
 Fire and Ice
~~Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

So, following Frost's whimsy about the destruction of the world, which would be your choice? To go out quickly in a blaze of glory ... or slowly freeze today?

  1. Great choice for a poet!

And in going with his statement about perishing twice, I'll vote for "freeze-dried." Freeze me and then burn me.
Oh, wait. I live in Kansas.
    Been there, done that.

  2. Bryce, rofl. I think there are probably a number of places where you can freeze and then fry. Or fry and then freeze. Hmmmm

  5. No fire. I think that'd be horrible. Not that freezing to death is a good option either...but if we only have those choice. lol.

  6. Fire hurts. I would prefer ice, then I'd be froze and some highly intelligent alien race can defrost me and make me good as new. :) It's the sci-fi writing in me talking.

  7. Welcome - thanks for dropping by. =D

Tara - I'd like to change in the twinkling of an eye, too.

Ashley - Fire. Ugh. Such a painful way to die.

Laila - love the SciFi approach!

  8. That's a tough question. I don't like extreme heat or cold. Though with freezing cold you'd eventually freeze and not feel anything, which might be better than burning up.

  9. Laura - yet if we slowly froze on this planet, a lot of people would starve to death first. Hmmmm ...

  10. I'd rather freeze because hypothermia would knock me out before my heart gave way. Dying by fire is too torturous sounding for me. I'm not one to abide suffering. But then, who is?

  12. Emily - Welcome. I agree. At least the cold makes you numb.

  13. Genius post! I love Frost. AND I adore this particular poem as it's actually my favorite. :)

I'd rather it ended in water actually. You know, like a tsunami or something. I'm not a fan of drowning but I've always wanted to die/be buried at sea. One rock two bunnies.

Oops. Did I just kill bunnies? :-(

  14. So what he is predicting is that an asteroid will knock the planet around like a pool ball. Thereby knocking us either into the sun or into the deep reaches of the galaxy. Interesting... :P

  15. Lyn - have you ever played Killer Bunnies? Hilarious board game.

Mike - some have compared to it Dante's inferno.

Jeff - as long we it's so fast we don't feel the pain ...

So I've stopped by to say hi, as of right now you are signed up to write just before me on the blogfest story chain. I wish you luck and can't wait to see what you come up with! I'll be looking for your segment at 2pm (EST)-hope I don't go blank when it's my turn!

  19. Wow, that's a hard question! I think fire probably, just because it's quicker, then again, the freezing might be more pain-free. Hmm. I guess I choose to live forever. ;)

And there's something for you on my blog... :)
