"Everneath"

I'm seriously dying today. I received an ARC of Brodi Ashton's book Everneath, when I got home from work yesterday. I started it after listening to the  Authors' Advisory Conference Call last night, which is hosted by Robin Weeks. It's because of Robin that I had this opportunity to read the book.

I read until a reasonable hour, though I kept thinking about the story. When I woke at 2 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep (because I was thinking about the story), I tried to go back to sleep. But I kept thinking about the dang story, so I finally gave up and got up.

I loved it. I won't say more now, but I've got to have my own copy. Why is January so far away?

I am going to be so worthless at work today.

  1. January, huh? Consider this: E2 isn't due out until JANUARY 2013!

    Glad you loved it!

  2. That's why God created this little bug called the "fiction flu" for avid readers.

Shhhhhhhhh....don't tell. I used it once. I'll be darned if it didn't work! Of course, I left the "fiction" part out.

  3. That is a beautiful cover. I've had stories keep me up at night before. It's a writer's addiction. You'd better start attending meetings. ;)

  4. She stole my book cover! How rude!

I think I can't live without this book, January you say? I guess I'll just have to keep busy until then...

  5. Don't you hate putting down a good book to have to sleep or go to work.

  6. Oh, how cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for this one!

  7. Squee! I have this one and I'm SO EXCITED to read it!

Jen - how do you think Brodi stole your book cover? Her publisher's art department designed it for her. She can't have stolen anything...

  8. How do you manage to get ARCs anyway? So lucky!

I love when a book gets so under your skin you can't stop reading or stop thinking about it. I recently experienced this with Jennifer Hillier's Creep. I was lucky, I'm my own boss so I did't have to worry about calling in sick.

(And I've been wondering how you managed to get Robin to critique your ms? She's just amazingly awesome!)

  11. Robin--THANK YOU!

Bryce--I don't fake sick. That's why I could take 4 months off with the sick time I've accrued. If I come down with cancer or something else it's nice to know I've got the time I'll need. If I'm going to be a grown up, I'll pay the piper for my choices. Besides, I'm old and this isn't that uncommon. Still kills. At least I had something WONDERFUL to read while I couldn't sleep. LOL

Laila - my secret is out! Hmmm ... I wonder if there's a local group of for recovering Bookaholics. WAIT! Why would I want to recover from that? ;)

Jen - isn't that a fabulous cover? I happened to be in a group with Brodi in February at LTUE when she opened the email with it on the phone. I was lucky enough to get a peek then but I've been mute about it.

Shelly - that's why I LOVE audiobooks. I frequently have my favorite books in both paper and audio. I have so much more time to "read" while doing other things. Sometimes even at work while I'm doing mindless tasks.

    Laura - I think you'll like it.

Jodi - I have been, too, so this opportunity to read it early came as a big surprise.

Nancy - it's all in WHO you know (and it was Robin who pulled string in my behalf--she's the one who knows Brodi).

Tara - read my blog tomorrow. I'm going to review another book I read last weekend and fell in love with.

  13. I had the same issue last night after reading The Magicians; my brain was so worked up but I was so tired that I just gave in and had to do something before I fell asleep.

This is one I'm keen on reading, and the cover (those colors!) doesn't hurt, either.

  14. Its a good thing, I love it when that happens.

  15. Now I want it. It's a good sign when a book keeps one up late (not good for work and other daily functions, though).
