The optional question didn't resonate with me this month, so I guess I'll talk about my angst.
I'm a finisher. I'm most comfortable when I start something and see it through to completion before starting another project. As an author, I have learned to work on a couple of different projects at once (focusing on one while dabbling on the other).
But I've struggled with burnout the last couple of years and have found myself bouncing between projects and even genres. Toward the end of 2024, I finally pulled myself together and finished two books. The second one I was in the midst of published even as I was admitted to the hospital!
So that kind of put a stop to everything for a few months as I recovered from being SO sick and the subsequent surgery.
I am writing again, on one of those projects I started and then set aside. But I'm getting a little switchy as I look at the list of partially written books. Seriously, I need to get faster at this!
Are you able to juggle more than one project at a time?
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI do start one or two projects but not all the time. I take breaks and that doesn't mean to stop wriitng. What I have discovered for me is that it is good to participate in one or two blog hops like this one. It keeps me from burning out and it makes me feel good to know that I am still writing.
All the best.
Shalom shalom
That's a good plan.
DeleteNo, I'm not, so don't feel bad that it's a challenge now. Hope you are up to getting the finished work published soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex. Me too!
DeleteI'm like Alex and work on one project at a time. I'm glad you're writing again and feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie. Those unfinished projects are like having pebbles in my shoe. lol
DeleteI am also not good with juggling more than one project at a time. What works for me is when I'm letting a manuscript sit (between edits or drafts), then I work on something else to "clear my head" so to speak. I don't think you are alone.
ReplyDeleteI do that too while a manuscript is resting.
DeleteNope. I've tried. Let me amend that. I cannot work on more than one fiction piece at a time.
ReplyDeleteThe things we learn about ourselves, right? lol
DeleteI'm sorry that you were in the hospital, but glad that you've come back from being so sick, Donna! I like to work on one thing at a time, but life intrudes and I'm constantly juggling. 😂 Congrats on finishing two books. That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks. And as for juggling, we have to get good at it, don't we? lol
DeleteIf I have more than one book to translate at the same time, I prefer to first translate one, and then the other one, than tackle them both at the same time.
ReplyDeleteIn your situation, I think I would too!
