It's been a crazy few weeks. We've had four ER visits, two ambulance rides, one air ambulance ride, three hospital stays, a stint at a skilled nursing facility, and an in-hospital rehab stint. The first time my husband was able to sleep in his bed more than one night without having another stroke was a wonderful day. And he hasn't had a new one since March 30th. And now our days are fill with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy (speech encompasses cognitive and memory therapy, the latter being what hubby needs).
Yes, he's had four strokes. Yes, he's got short-term memory loss. Yes, the right side of his body is numb from the base of his skull to the bottom of his ankle.
But his right side is still functional. It's only a little weaker than his left. He doesn't have pain when he moves, something many stroke victims can't say. In fact, the numbness is actually a blessing because it's stopped the headaches from the degenerating discs in his neck. Seriously, the intake nurse at the skilled nursing facility said she'd never heard of such a thing, that he was a medical miracle.
I believe it.
We know Who made that miracle happen. Donna, so sorry. But yes, I had a blogging friend who was in so much pain and misery after her stroke. That he doesn't hurt is a blessing. Prayers for his recovery. And your strength as it won't be easy.
ReplyDeleteMiracle for sure! Hugs, warm wishes, and healthy thoughts coming your way.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteStay strong, dear, cannot even imagine what strength it takes to go through all of this and not be able to do much.
ReplyDeleteSometimes adversity brings up that inner strength.
DeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYou are one amazing lady to see the bright side after four strokes. I'm thinking a family as strong and as blessed as yours will pull through. Prayers it happens easily and quickly. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate it, Elizabeth. It's really helped how our family has stepped up. Our church has also.
DeleteI'm so sorry for the health challenges your husband is going through. It's so important to stay positive and enjoy what you have together. I hope he continues not having strokes and that his therapy helps. Hugs to you. I'm always here if you need to talk.
ReplyDeleteWho knew the simple act of not having strokes would be such a blessing? lol
